Happy Winter Solstice! It's perhaps an apt metaphor that tonight we're in the longest darkest hours of the season with all these unknowns in the news. But the winter solstice has so much to do with mindset, perspective, and long-term thinking. Sure, you can feel down about how we're under total darkness by 5 PM. Or, you can daydream about what you'd be doing right now if you were in the Southern hemisphere instead, enjoying a luxuriously long day of sunshine. (Maybe start planning a winter solstice trip to South America next year...?) What I love most about this day is how it's an achievement - a conquering, a survival through more and more darkness to arrive at the solstice and celebrate the defeat of shortening days and reap our rewards - more brightness added to our lives, minute by minute, day by day, month by month. The world keeps turning on its tilt, as we hang on for the ride. We've made it through the darkest of times together before, and I'll be here when sunny days surround us again too.
Above, you can see how happy I was to exhibit in the trade show portion of our Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting and winter gala. I LOVE TRADE SHOWS. Seriously! Running a travel business involves a great deal of trust from my clients, and it's so important for people to meet me in person because I'm normally working away at a laptop remotely, with no brick and mortar storefront for someone to see I'm a real, live person.
