La Zambra, one of the oldest flamenco cave venues

The House of the Guitar is a cultural center located in the neighborhood of Santa Cruz in Seville. Located in an 18th century house, the place is only a few minutes away from the Cathedral and the Reales Alcázares, the two most important monuments of the city. The cultural center was founded by the flamenco guitarist José Luis Postigo, whose career now extends over 45 years. There are two flamenco shows every night, which last about an hour and has three or four artists. During the day it is also possible to visit the impressive exhibition of flamenco guitars that go back to the 19th century. It highlights the original arch of the twelfth century that was once part of an Arab bath. Discovered during the renovations, it has remained intact and now serves as a backdrop for the stage.

The family is dedicated to offering an authentic experience, both for flamenco fans and those looking for an introduction to this art form. Before the performance there is a brief introduction about the center and the show in general. They offer explanations before each song, providing a very interesting historical context for each style of flamenco. The show has been carefully programmed so that the audience can experience the wide range of emotions of the different flamenco styles: from the happiness expressed in bulerías to the emotional anguish found in seguiriyas. The exhibition shows one of the best collections of flamenco guitar in the world, giving the cultural center the unique distinction as the first museum in the world of flamenco guitar. Finally, several of the paintings on the walls are works by the family of José Luis Postigo.

José Luis Postigo, patriarch and founder of the Casa de la Guitarra, was born in Seville and grew up in the Amate neighborhood, where his father had a tavern that was often frequented by flamenco fans. For ten years he studied and worked as a flamenco dancer, until reaching a professional level. With time Postigo found his vocation in the art of flamenco guitar, thanks to the inspiration of his teacher Antonio Osuna, for whom Postigo has a great affection and gratitude. He has toured the world with some of the best known flamenco artists and companies. Of all the performances he most remembers with affection, it is in the City Council of Seville, accompanying Antonio Mairena when he received the distinction of honorary citizen of Seville. José Luis Postigo has recorded more than sixty flamenco albums with famous singers: Miguel Vargas, José de la Tomasa, Fernanda and Bernarda, José Mercé, Antonio Núñez "El Chocolate", Juana de El Revuelo, Naranjito de Triana, El Chozas, Calixto Sánchez, El Cabrero and Rocío Segura, among others. He has played for flamenco dancers such as Pilar López, Rosario and Antonio "El Bailarín", Farruco, Cristina Hoyos, Matilde Coral and Spain Trini. He has received the National Award of Cordoba "Manolo de Huelva" (1.983) of accompaniment and dance and the Prize of the Chair of Flamencology of Jerez de la Frontera.
