5 Flowery Ways to See London for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The UK is back, baby, yeah! (This is me impersonating Austin Powers. hahaha) As of August 2nd, fully-vaccinated Americans can enter the UK without quarantining; you'll just need that familiar pre-departure test and a PCR test on or before day two of your arrival. Airlines are adding tons of UK flights back to their routes, and of course the next question is: What's on in London? I'm glad you asked! Click here for a calendar of London shows to help you decide on dates for your next theater trip across the pond.

Prior to forming Nine Muses Travel, I crafted many wonderful group trip itineraries for garden experts and enthusiasts to experience English gardens in and around London, centered around the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show - one of the most magnificent flower shows in the world. After experiencing the flower show, a classic compliment is to tour notable, charming, and unique gardens in London then throughout England if you have more time to explore.

The Chelsea Flower Show is normally in May, but this year you'll still be able to see it because they've moved the dates to September! This fall let's add some fantastic floral fun to a London theater getaway. Here are some fresh ideas for a fragrant fall trip to London!

Wander the Chelsea Flower Show

Typically held in May, the show is moving to September (21 through 26) this year for the first time in its 108-year history. Celebrating autumn horticulture will surely bring an exciting and different look to what many consider the world’s most prestigious floral event. Secure tickets to exclusive Flower Show events and arrange tours with a horticulturalist.

Discover London's Oldest Botanical Garden On the north bank of the River Thames, Chelsea Physic Garden is home to around 4,000 different plant species. The four-acre plot was established by apothecaries in 1673 for medicinal use. Viewing (and photographing) the glasshouses full of exotic species and the Dicotyledon Order Beds (plants are placed in families according to their flower structure) sounds especially rewarding.

Take Tea at The Dorchester

Tiny sandwiches and tiers of beautiful pastries are a British tradition. The Dorchester’s specially themed floral teatime is the perfect way to kick off a flower-filled week in the city.

Appreciate Art at the Victoria and Albert Museum Viewing the V&A’s floral still life collection will help inspire floral photography. The Main Café is a masterpiece in itself – a perfect spot for coffee and notebook sketching.

Fall Color in Chelsea Cadogan and the Royal Horticultural Society partner to put on Chelsea in Bloom, an annual floral competition and London’s largest free flower festival, in which neighborhood restaurants, boutiques, and hotels compete to outdo each other. Fittingly, this year’s installment (September 20 through 25) is themed “Extraordinary Voyages.”
