Do you have a favorite firework? This is mine - the highest one with the biggest boom then the sparkliest burst of gold fanning the sky. I love how long it lingers in the sky, how its slow, fiery cascade holds the night like it never wants to burn away. I imagine they're a shower of stars falling to earth.
This 4th of July I was home and happily realized I have a full view of Macy's fireworks from my bedroom window! I pulled up a chair, leaned on my window sill with head in hands, and watched the whole show, with Dad on the phone with me. He watched fireworks on TV while I oohed and aahed ours in NYC. Each time they shot off the Empire State Building was spectacular! Dad and I talk on the phone now most nights. This call had the longest silences of any of our calls, as we simply enjoyed watching fireworks together, from afar, for a while. We hadn't planned on it. Our evening call just turned into a fireworks watching party. It was quietly sort of magical. However you spent your holiday weekend, I hope you found moments of magic too.
