"Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life forever." — Amy Poehler
This weekend I returned to exhibiting in person at APAP|NYC, the world's largest performing arts conference, and I had such a great time! While making new connections, I'm always really happy to reconnect with colleagues from my 14 years in Artist Services at BAM and managing the rehearsal spaces at The New 42nd Street Studios. When our expo hall at New York Hilton Midtown closed for the night, I hopped around some of the wildly eclectic artist showcases held in the Hilton, delighted by the 15-minute excerpts I saw from Confessions of a Showgirl, Flamenco dancing with jazz pianist Juan Pérez, Empire Trio's Hooray for Hollywood, the comedy of Jen Kober, Inuit Soul group Pamyua, Amy G's Revenge of the Bond Girls, Fleetwood Mac cover band Back 2 Mac, Broadway's Next Hit Musical presents The Phony Awards, Manuel Prestamo's From Cuba with Love: The Story of a Peter Pan Kid, and mentalist Erica Sodos. I also caught the beautifully haunting Angel Island at BAM.
During the conference, I often reflected on all that's happened to the arts and travel industries, to my business, and to me personally since the last time I exhibited at APAP - in January 2020. It was surreal and joyful to be back after four years of fortitude that sometimes feel like a fever dream. I was especially moved each time someone went out of their way to come up and say kind things about Muse News and my writing over the years. Sometimes I was waiting in line for lunch or a coffee, and other times they found my booth to say hello and chat. One conversation that will stay with me for a long time was with talented musician and author Ken Waldman, who advised me to write a book! That was the first time someone outside my family has said that, and now I'll be giving it some serious thought.
Nine Muses Travel exists to provide expert travel planning for artists, arts lovers, and the culturally curious. Some members of APAP get confused because I'm the only professional travel advisor in APAP, and I have to explain I don't put tours together for artists. What I can do is help non-profits develop and operate luxury group travel for their VIP donors as well as custom-design itineraries for individuals, couples, and groups including friends, family groups, or social networks with similar interests. Nine Muses Travel is a traditional travel agency, with a particular appeal for arts lovers.
For 2024 my mantra when it comes to travel is: What are you waiting for? The last four years have shown us life needs to be lived and to not put off things you long to experience. Still have a destination on your wish list? Why? What are you waiting for? Let's get you there! Has your organization been wanting to arrange a group trip that doubles as a fundraiser? Let's do it! 2024 is full of possibilities!
