"Trains are wonderful.... To travel by train is to see nature and human beings, towns and churches and rivers, in fact, to see life." — Agatha Christie
It looks like my 2022 will be a year for scenic American adventure! Having just fulfilled a little fantasy of sailing along the Mississippi River, I set my sights out west now and just booked "an offer I couldn't refuse" with luxury rail company Rocky Mountaineer! After a September conference in LA, I'll head to Moab, Utah for a bit to recharge (introverts, you get it) and to revisit Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, as an adult. Why Moab? Because that's where I'll board my Rocky Mountaineer train on their new journey from Moab to Denver with an overnight included at Glenwood Springs, CO. You can also ride Denver-Moab, if you prefer. Either way, this route is spectacular. I won't even try to describe the scenery, not when you can watch this short video and see what I mean. Rocky Mountaineer is the world's largest privately owned luxury tourist train, and they have so many stunning routes and cool itineraries throughout the Rockies in both the U.S. and Canada. I'm so excited to experience one of their trains myself and to tell you all about it!
This month it seems every hotel and destination sales rep around the world is back out on the road, and I've got some nice meetings arranged this week. The first is with the Sales Manager for Autentico Hotels in Italy, a fabulous collection including two Virtuoso properties and some Relais & Chateaux too. Then I return to The Peninsula New York (who provided a fabulous surprise birthday cocktail party for me last year!) and will meet with sales teams of other Peninsula hotels. I wonder if I should tell them I'll be in LA this year for my birthday, in case they want to start a tradition of throwing my birthday party at a different Peninsula hotel every year!
Here in the home office, the last-minute spring and summer requests keep coming, and I love the variety! Two requests for Chile and others for Patagonia, Lisbon, Bordeaux, Paris, Puerto Rico, and Asheville, NC too. I LOVE my job! I get into that happy, Zen-like zone working on your itinerary designs and imagining you out there enjoying each trip - tailored just the way YOU like to travel. I often get asked what I would personally do and see in a destination, and the answer is - that doesn't matter as much as you might think. We all have our own travel styles, preferences, and quirks. How I like to travel and what I like to do is personal to me, and each of you have your own likes and dislikes too. My job is to deeply listen and hear what you're telling me about you and your companions' travel needs and desires and then manifest them with an itinerary designed to inspire you. And truthfully, all your travels inspire me too!
