Today's quote is from Lady Gaga because last week I got to hear Brian Newman and his band perform at The Jazz Club, the speakeasy stealthily located below the new Aman New York hotel. Brian Newman was the bandleader, arranger, and trumpeter for Lady Gaga's and Tony Bennett's "Cheek to Cheek" album and tour and their "Love for Sale" album. He's also the bandleader and arranger for her Las Vegas residency and the current Creative Director and anchor performer at The Jazz Club. I was invited with a travel advisor friend to an Aman hotels event there, and we learned about Aman's updates across their global portfolio of properties which all embrace a private, individual, and high-end experience. They're some of the most stunning hotels anywhere!
On Friday night I attended a business networking event hosted by Pebble Bar, an historic gem hidden in plain sight - on the top floors of a legendary townhouse at Rockefeller Center. I must have walked by a thousand times and never really noticed it before. From 1892-2000 it was called Hurley’s and was known for its regulars like Johnny Carson, who had a personal secret entrance; Jack Kerouac, who helped inspire the bar's name; David Letterman, who sometimes filmed inside; and a legacy of Saturday Night Live folks over the decades. It's definitely worth a visit!
Last week I also hosted my fourth monthly Travel Night at The Montauk Club, the private social club where I'm a member, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I co-presented with my local rep from Virgin Voyages and showed what makes Virgin so unique among all other cruise lines - beginning with it being adults only! I got to relive and share my own experiences sailing with Virgin in December to the Dominican Republic and Bahamas.
