WE MADE IT!! That's what my grandmother and I cheered at midnight on January 1st. Through a wild series of weather and family events, I found myself spending the remainder of 2022 alone with my grandmother on her sofa, talking together, opening gifts, eating popcorn while watching The Thin Man movies on TCM, showing her my travels on Instagram, and eventually taking turns keeping each other awake through the last 30 minutes of 2022 that seemed to take as long as the year itself. Then, midnight arrived as we watched the ball drop in Times Square and were relieved to have made it to that moment - not only awake, but thankfully healthy, optimistic, and simply happy to be together again for the holidays after spending the last two apart. It wasn't easy getting to 2023, but we made it! My whole long weekend in Pittsburgh was filled with love and laughter with family all across Pittsburgh, and it was the best way to start a new year.
