Staycation, all I ever wanted... Staycation, had to get away!
This weekend I vacationed right here in New York and enjoyed great music, friendship, sun, sand - and two free Marriott Bonvoy reward nights I had to use or lose by June 30! On Saturday I rented a car from Enterprise, picked up a friend, and drove us out to Long Island for beach time at Robert Moses State Park, where it feels unimaginable that the country's largest city is just an hour away. We checked in and freshened up at the Long Island Marriott before my best concert splurge ever - VIP parking and super close VIP seats at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater for Garbage (opening) and Tears For Fears' last stop on their North American for The Tipping Point. It was my first time there, and what a venue... right on the water with sea breezes to keep cool while dancing and adoring my favorite artists. The experience was so fun and easy because "we're very VIP" I kept saying like Anna Delvey all night!
We drove back on Sunday, but I still had one more free Bonvoy reward night to cash in plus another concert lined up! I love the band The XX, and the singer Oliver Sim released a solo album this year that is hauntingly beautiful. He played Bowery Ballroom Sunday night, perfect for Pride weekend, and I redeemed my other free night at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Henry Street, a 15 minute walk from the venue. It felt decadently cool to just walk "home" to Chinatown after the show instead of the subway or Uber back to Brooklyn.
It was exhilarating to see my home city in a new way, feel how a different neighborhood goes to sleep and how it wakes up in the morning, to sleep near the Manhattan Bridge and see the Freedom Tower around the corner before a reverse commute home on Monday morning.
