I know everyone is eager to get out of the house and get traveling again, and I’m already being asked about traveling by train to our great U.S. National Parks. One of my favorite ways to travel is by train, and I don’t mind that it takes a little longer. That’s the whole point! I've lost count of how many times I've ridden the Pennsylvanian line between New York and Pittsburgh, and I love the Adirondack line so much; the whole ride along the Hudson River is gorgeous. I love watching the world pass by – majestic landscapes, small towns, towering cities, stony mountains, historic bridges, farms, factories, fairgrounds, fields of flowers - all rolling by as you glimpse into countless other lives. Below are some particularly great reasons to ride the rails. Plus right now Amtrak is operating on reduced capacity for extra safety; this also means availability is more limited. So don’t wait long to book a great American rail vacation, and enjoy all the flexibility that traveling with Amtrak brings.
Few modes of travel offer the freedom and flexibility as Amtrak. We can customize your itinerary to any Amtrak destination in North America for any dates or length of trip. You can take the train from your nearest station at home, or fly to another town to board there. Maybe you’d like to go long distance by train one way and fly the other way. Anytime along the way, you can hop off to rent a car, stay in hotels, go on private tours, and take off exploring.
Forget driving down I-95 this summer and bring your own car (or van, motorcycle, SUV, small boat, jet-ski or other recreational vehicle) on board! The Auto Train is the only one of its kind in the U.S. and runs between Washington, D.C. and Orlando. Load up your car like it were your suitcase, and save yourself the traffic hassles and gas money on this epic road trip!
For going the distance, sleeper cars are where it’s at for solo travelers, couples, and even families. Upgrade to a Bedroom for your own in-room toilet and shower, plus you get all meals included! That’s three meals a day, and you can have them all delivered right to your cabin by your attendant. All sleeper cabins get to board the train separately too. Insider tip: sleeper cabins are allowed to BYOB as long as you consume alcohol only inside your room.
Amtrak always had a leg up on air travel because their trains never had a middle seat, and all Amtrak seats have lots of leg room. Plus you can bring your bags on board for free.
There's no more worry-free way to travel than Amtrak. We can reschedule any trip up to five days prior to departure - without any change or cancellation fees.
