After the Icebergs

"We should come home from adventures, and perils, and discoveries every day with new experience and character." — Henry David Thoreau
There's a particular feeling of ennui when I return from a trip I really loved. It reminds me of the high voltage energy vacuum I'd feel at the end of a run of a play I was acting in. All the excitement and thrill of feeling so alive and in the moment, at such heightened levels of joy, abruptly changes back to the regular every day routine when the final curtain falls or you turn the key back in your front door. I had a feeling I'd love my first Arctic expedition and Greenland particularly, but the beauty was so inescapably everywhere and enveloping us, it's like I'm addicted to icebergs now; and I'm in withdrawal.
I haven't even finished posting the photos and videos on Nine Muses Travel's Instagram and Facebook. This past week I uploaded a lot of videos, that really capture the spirit of our adventure. The videos include how we get from the Zodiacs into our ship, the BOOM crunch crunch of the ship's specially-designed X-bow colliding head-on with icebergs, and so many different sounds that ice can make as it floats by. Sometimes they POP and crackle as they release air and gases. Sometimes, it's slushy, other times just a pleasing water-lapping sound. We got up close and personal with radiantly blue icebergs on our Zodiacs, and I uploaded videos of those too. I truly hope you enjoy them all.
After disembarkation, I spent an extra day in Reykjavik; I'll be posting photos of it soon too. The one above is from inside the spectacular Harpa performance venue and conference center. I'd spend all my time here if I lived in Reykjavik! The concert hall is ingeniously lit inside to resemble the glowing red of lava; we got to sit in the balcony when our tour caught one of the free concerts Harpa presents each week.
Can you guess how I get over the feeling of missing a destination when I've returned home? I start looking forward to the next trip, of course! Next weekend I head to Amsterdam with Gifted Travel Network for a seminar on social media content strategies during AmaWaterways' Best of Holland & Belgium river cruise. I'm looking forward to learning how to do more than post my photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook. Honestly, if I make a reel, it's by mistake. I'm too busy working on all your fantastic trips and running a business to figure out the intricacies of social media on my own. And if I get to have some Belgian waffles and chocolates while I learn more about it, all the better.
