Merriam-Webster defines "chrysalis" as not only the pupa of a butterfly and its hardened outer protective layer, but also as "a protecting covering, a sheltered state or stage of being or growth." I've chosen to view these months at home as my personal chrysalis; my walls are providing a hardened outer layer in a sheltered state, and masks are my protecting covering. While safely inside, I've had a very active stage of growth. I continue to update my business operations, marketing, certifications, and insider knowledge of the travel industry and its leading public health safety standards and protocols. Personally, I've been undergoing a transformation too!
Through the Real Appeal program (a surprise benefit from my health insurance provider), so far I've lost eight pounds, exercise five or more times a week, eat a nutritious and balanced diet, and put every single calorie to work for ME now. I can't remember the last time I felt this good in my body all day every day. I decided I want a good story to come out of 2020, and under the cover of social distancing, I'm slowly and steadily transforming myself here inside my chrysalis home. Even my hair is growing longer, just below my shoulders now. I fantasize about what sort of butterfly wings I'll sprout when I emerge at the end of this "sheltered state" and brilliantly flit off to Portugal's Azores, Madeira, and Algarve regions, Morocco, or Rwanda - all high atop my travel list!
