Savannah's Sophisticated & Spooky Charms

"Moon river, wider than a mile. I'm crossing you in style someday. Oh, dream maker. You heartbreaker. Wherever you're going I'm going your way." ― Moon River, Johnny Mercer
The lyricist Johnny Mercer, who co-founded Capitol Records, was one of many famous people who called Savanna home throughout American history. I'm here as an invited advisor for Journeys Global, a luxury travel networking event, and am loving the hosted activities by Visit Savannah. On Monday night we had a festive and fun dinner event inside historic Old Fort Jackson, pictured above. That morning we sailed on the Savannah River right past it on the Georgia Queen, where we had our networking appointments and a yummy Southern style lunch. On the cruise I learned more about Savannah's importance as a shipping port while dolphins swam beside us and bald eagles circled overhead.
We were treated to a haunted city tour by trolley on Sunday night, and I learned much of the downtown historic district is built above burial grounds. Lots of the beautiful, old homes and buildings have a dark past too, and Savannah is supposedly the most haunted city in America. It's easy to believe!
I was hosted at Perry Lane Hotel, and after Journeys Global ends on Wednesday, I'm going to tour the amazing Hotel Bardo Savannah and have lunch with my sales contact. I'm staying an extra night in Savannah and switching to Thompson Savannah, where I'll also have a tour and dinner with their sales rep. These are the three Virtuoso hotels in Savannah, and I invite you to use those links to book your own stay AND receive extra amenities as my VIP client. They're in great locations for exploring Savannah!
I'm also joining a small group tour of Bonaventure Cemetery by golf cart before heading to the Lucas Theatre for the Arts for a tour and a rare demonstration of its original 1925 Wurlitzer theatre organ.
Savannah pairs well with Charleston, Hilton Head, Beaufort, and other coastal Georgia spots. To avoid crowds and excessive heat and humidity, I recommend visiting Savannah at this time of year too. With the flowers blooming, you can stroll under the oak trees, see inside interesting house museums, dine at great restaurants, try home-made sweet treats in town, and discover its pirate and prohibition history.
Savannah is sophisticated Southern charm with a spooky side, and it's worth a whole trip of its own!
