Cool L.A. Bars at Cool L.A. Hotels

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

L.A. hotel bars are great spots to see and be seen, or just have a fab night out! The Proud Experiences team organized evening events at two noteworthy hotels for us: Kimpton La Peer for a rooftop party and The Maybourne Beverly Hills for a reception on their Garden Terrace. Here are some more hotel scenes to add to your own list!

Los Angeles is known for its hidden neighborhood bars, edgy watering holes, and sultry underground speakeasies. But sometimes, the best cocktails wait just around the corner from the check-in desk or on the deck of the rooftop pool. Case in point: these opulent lounges and lively bars located in five of our favorite hotels.

Hollywood Glamour

A glam gold ceiling, blue walls, geometric black-and-white marble tiles, and cozy low velvet seats greet guests at the 149-room Pendry West Hollywood’s ground floor Bar Pendry – a jewel box of a cocktail lounge serving vespers, palomas, and other classic cocktails. Elsewhere in the hotel, chef Wolfgang Puck’s two restaurants feature standout cocktail menus. For elevated sunset views, head to Merois, the rooftop restaurant with an outdoor lounge overlooking the pool, for favorites such as the sharp Samurai Sword, made with Suntory whiskey, Cointreau, lemon, ginger, and honey. At casual eatery Ospero, ciabatta French toast gets an upgrade when paired with Pepino’s Revenge (tequila, cucumber, basil, and lime). Virtuoso travelers receive breakfast daily and a $100 resort credit.

Rooftop Garden Party

Set atop the 285-room 1 Hotel West Hollywood is Harriet’s Rooftop, the West Coast’s little sister to the popular Brooklyn spot of the same name. Lots of plants, strings of lights, and decorative umbrellas inform the ambience in the semi-open terrace, where not even the delicious and fabulously named cocktails – try the Vibe Check, made with vodka, watermelon, Campari, and sparkling lemon soda, or the Situationship, a shaken Rémy Martin, Cointreau, blood orange, and lemon martini – can upstage the panoramic city views. At the leather-wrapped indoor bar, you might even spot Dave Chappelle, an occasional guest and the namesake for the nook labeled “Dave’s Corner.” Virtuoso travelers receive breakfast daily and a $100 dining credit.

A Lounge Affair

Fairmont Miramar’s Lobby Lounge is undeniably one of Santa Monica’s best-loved cocktail bars, where any night you’ll find a mix of well-heeled locals, chic couples, and travelers mingling over tasty libations on the ground floor of the 297-room hotel. Overlooking the garden’s koi pond and waterfalls, the space features a breezy midcentury-modern aesthetic, thanks to Hans Wegner-inspired chairs and velvet sofas surrounded by potted palms. Heavy on gin and vodka, the menu reinvents standbys such as the citron fizz, made with Aviation gin, roasted green tea sourced from Kyoto, cacao, lemon, and soda. Virtuoso travelers receive breakfast daily and a $100 dining credit.

’Gram-Worthy

Stepping from Downtown L.A.’s Olive Street into Per L’Ora, the restaurant bar at the 241-room Hotel Per La, feels like entering a cheerful sunroom where aperitivo hour might very well turn into dinner and more cocktails that stretch into the wee hours. Seating options include sofas upholstered in handwoven fabrics and a marble-topped bar lit by whimsical globe pendants. The menu is organized into distinct sections: Per Il Passato offers twists on bygone classics such as Land and Sea, combining gin, lemon, orgeat, and bitters; Per L’Ora lists experimental, of-the-moment cocktails like the Belt of Venus, a refreshing sour made with pisco, violette, lemon bitters, and vanilla meringue; and Per Il Vino focuses on drinks made with wine. This being L.A., all are Instagram-ready. Try the Jubilee, a deep-purple cocktail comprising Luxardo sour cherry gin, amaretto, lambrusco, and hibiscus, mixed to a shade Prince would have loved and served in a sleek glass with two frozen cherries. Virtuoso travelers receive breakfast daily and a $100 dining credit.

Seaside Sips

A stone’s throw from Malibu Pier, the Carbon Beach Club at the 47-room Malibu Beach Inn plays up its ocean vibes with seafoam and azure accents. Sit at the bar – or better yet, grab a table on the terrace suspended over the golden sand – and let the surf become your happy hour soundtrack. The cocktail menu is so very SoCal – go for the refreshing turmeric screwdriver made with cold-pressed orange turmeric juice, or the zero-proof Trip the Light Fandango made with Seedlip Spice 94, fresh ginger, and apple juice. Virtuoso travelers receive breakfast daily and a $100 dining credit.
