Feeling Elevated in Salt Lake City with the League of American Orchestras

Last week Nine Muses Travel exhibited for the sixth time with the League of American Orchestras at our annual conference, and we shared a wonderful sense of community in this year's host city, Salt Lake City. Thanks to my membership at the Montauk Club in Brooklyn, I took advantage of our reciprocal privileges at the historic, private Alta Club in downtown Salt Lake City and invited these lovely ladies above to dinner as my guests. (We did not coordinate our outfits beforehand.) They're with luxury river cruise company AmaWaterways, who joined the League this year and exhibited with us too.

 

I cherish my time at this conference and am proud Nine Muses Travel is a League member. It's an incredibly special, inclusive group of conductors, composers, musicians, educators, administrators, volunteers, donors, leaders, and lovers of music who come from their home orchestras around the country (and world) to share industry insights and information that broaden perspectives and strengthen the whole community. I've always felt welcome at the League and made new friends each year, not just new business contacts. It's also really fun now to meet up with members who have become clients or who come by my exhibitor table to say hello and share that they read Muse News.

 

Under Salt Lake City's clear and bright skies, I was closer to the sun and felt the higher elevation not in my body but in my soul. It's inspiring and heartening to meet kind, intelligent, and talented professionals who are so genuinely earnest in their belief in the healing, uniting, and uplifting power of music in people's lives and for society as a whole. Music education directly impacts the academic success of children. Music therapy succeeds for some neurological conditions where other treatments fail. Orchestras and the performing arts in general are huge economic engines for their local communities. And the arts are how we best share and showcase our unique humanity.

 

Please, think of the last time a piece of music moved you in some way you couldn't describe with words. Or maybe it was a painting, or a play, an opera, or a dance. If you had that experience thanks to a non-profit, please give the organization a donation, no matter how small - even if it's just a gesture to show your support and your thanks. There's no meaningful society without the arts in our communities, and these non-profits need to know they matter to us.
