Ideal Winter Getaway - Beach or Snow?

"How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year!” ― Charles Dudley Warner
I'm officially over these 4:30pm sunsets, and I know I'm not alone. For many, making it through winter means escaping on a warm, wonderful holiday, even for a few days. This winter I've got clients heading to Miami, South Andros Island in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Southern California, Aruba, and Nevis.
I also have clients embracing the holiday season by traveling to cool places like coastal Rhode Island, the Danube River for a Christmas markets cruise with AmaWaterways, Rome, Morocco, Yellowstone, and Bozeman, Montana. And right now two of my friends are surrounded by the majestic beauty of Antarctica on their luxurious expedition with Silversea Cruises.
For the sunshine seekers, last week I attended a Spain tourism event focused on Marbella (pictured above), and the mayor of Marbella was there! I met with fantastic hoteliers and restaurant owners and got an update on what's happening in Marbella. This small Andalucian city on southern Spain's Costa del Sol is a high-end resort destination, and right now is a great time to go; several new luxury hotels are opening there next year, and you can say you were there before it was more on everyone's radar.
Marbella attracts well-heeled visitors with its upscale amenities, pleasant year-round climate, pretty beaches, and world-class golfing, dining, and shopping. You might even run into Antonio Banderas, Eva Longoria, or other celebrities with homes there. If this is your style, I know the best properties in town and which ones are opening up soon. United has nonstop flights to Malaga to get you there fast.
For all my homies in Pittsburgh, Aer Lingus just announced they're adding nonstop flights between Pittsburgh and Dublin from the end of May 2026. Your new Dublin flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. So you'll soon have three nonstop European routes: Dublin on Aer Lingus, London Heathrow on British Airways, and Keflavik, Iceland (seasonally) on Icelandair.
I'm getting more and more Ireland requests, and if you're looking for nonstop flights, Aer Lingus will have them with Washington Dulles, Boston, Hartford, Minneapolis, Newark, JFK, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Raleigh/Durham.
However you're handling this December darkness, Sunday is the winter solstice when each day finally gets a little bit brighter. And having a trip to look forward to is the best way to beat the winter blahs - or embrace its magic!
