How to Plan a Luxury Coastal Maine Getaway

"What else is there to do here - or anywhere in nature - but to indulge the awareness of your senses, observe, the instructive otherness that lies just beyond - or is it within - the beauty of nature, and improve your understanding of the world around you and of yourself as an observing being?" ― Christopher Camuto

I had the pleasure this week of curating a last minute (one week notice!) iconic New England road trip for a cool new client who's a principal at the architecture firm she co-founded in Utah. Her daughter is graduating from college in Boston, and to celebrate, she asked for my help with a road trip for them to share this incredibly special time together. I love hearing all the reasons why people travel.

Since she's flying into Boston from landlocked Utah and anything coastal feels very exotic to her, I focused on Coastal Maine and Acadia National Park. They have 10 days, which also gives time for a Maine lighthouses small group bike tour, an excursion to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the cog railway, a tasting tour of Kennebunkport, and a day trip to Nantucket before ending back in Boston. I'm excited they'll get to experience some spectacular properties along the Maine coast like Inn by the Sea and Cliff House Maine (both offering a lot of extra perks and amenities through Virtuoso) and also Under Canvas Acadia. I finally have a glamping client!

I've been wanting to book a glamping experience for years, and this lucky mother daughter duo will share a Stargazer Tent at Under Canvas Acadia, set on waterfront property near Acadia National Park. They'll fall asleep gazing at a million stars through a clear section of their roof above their King bed. These private, luxury tents are on a raised deck with hardwood flooring, a sitting area by their wood-burning stove, and yes - a private bathroom and flushing toilet. They are GLAMping, after all.

I worked in the travel industry for years before forming Nine Muses Travel, so I started my business with plenty of professional connections in my network. It's always nice to see familiar names from those days, like when I was booking Cliff House Maine for this trip. When I was a Product Manager for Tauck, we used this stunning hotel in my New England itineraries. Now through our affiliation with Virtuoso, and because relationships really do matter, my happy clients were offered a free double room upgrade!

They pick up their rental car tomorrow, and I look forward to hearing all about their adventures! I care deeply about designing journeys that inspire each of my clients, and I'd love for you to be my next VIP.

Nine Muses Travel designs journeys to inspire artists, arts lovers and the culturally curious.
