My First Expedition: Greenland's Uncharted, Southeast Fjords with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions

I've lost count of the glaciers. It's impossible to count the icebergs. Endless shades of blue are all around us, every day. I'm aboard the National Geographic Resolution, a state-of-the-art polar vessel with only 76 cabins (all with outside balconies, including my spacious solo cabin), for my first experience, as an invited guest, with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions.
I'm on a brand new itinerary called "Southeast Greenland: Exploring at the Edge of the Ice Cap," and we are actually exploring and sailing into uncharted fjords! Our staff and crew might be even more excited than the guests, and the captain, who loves polar expeditions, is happy like a little kid to be sailing into these fjords for the first time.
Our captain is also a trained pilot and has a drone he'll fly as we marvel at a mountainous iceberg in the open sea or an epic glacier that forms the start of the fjord. There's an open bridge policy, and it's a festive atmosphere at night as we join him on the bridge and watch his footage when the drone returns.
We're traveling with scientists, scholars, and researchers who are also documenting their findings - including the two-person dive team who are the first to photograph the kelp and sea life at the bottom of these fjords. They're giving insightful lectures about Greenland's history, culture, birds, plants, marine life, geology, etc. and happily mingling with guests and during meals to share their knowledge.
It's an indescribable feeling to know we're charting these waters for the first time and that seeing these landscapes is an incredible, rare privilege. And yesterday morning, we spotted a polar bear on land!
The weather has been super sunny and warmer than I expected, in the 30's and 40's. During our Zodiac rides, I'm warm and dry with the layers I brought, and National Geographic also gift you a really great, good-looking jacket that's been performing perfectly too. Windproof and waterproof gear is key.
