National Travel Advisor Day is My Every Day

"Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work." ― Aristotle

May 1st was National Travel Advisor Day, and rather than post about it on social media about it, I'd like to take the opportunity here to tell you why you (and everyone you care about) should work with a professional travel advisor like me who has earned and maintains the Verified Travel Advisor (VTA) certification through the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). ASTA is our field's national organization with a powerful lobbying mission to advocate for our country's travel agencies, which are mostly small businesses owned by women. In addition to being a member of ASTA, I take the extra step to stay current with my VTA certification that's achieved through many hours of education and training because I believe every professional advisor should learn and stay especially aware of the legal matters and ethical obligations in the work we do. There is a shockingly low barrier to entry in forming a travel agency, and from the very beginning I've been a member of ASTA because this is not a hobby or side gig for me. This is my livelihood. While I really REALLY enjoy what I do, I take my professional obligations as your travel advisor extremely seriously.

So this National Travel Advisor Day, I did what I've done for the previous five years: I helped clients plan some amazing adventures! A friend / former BAM coworker of mine booked an active walking and hiking holiday in Croatia with Backroads plus two extra nights before his tour in Dubrovnik at a five star resort right on the water and some post tour time in Split because I suggested he see gorgeous Plitvice Lakes National Park while he's there. Then I helped a former Theater for a New Audience colleague arrange accommodations in Rome for her and her husband plus a VIP early morning Vatican tour and an intimate, guided tour of the Borghese Gallery. Afterwards, I helped one of my best friends purchase Swiss Travel Passes for her and husband's romantic rail journey this fall through France from Lyon to Chamonix then to Switzerland from Montreux to Geneva. Throw in client calls about a family's upcoming trip through Italy (Milan, Tuscan Coast, Florence, Elba Island, and Rome) and a VIP donor trip to Paris for a renowned modern dance company, and that was my National Travel Advisor Day.

Forming Nine Muses Travel six years ago changed my life, and I never take for granted how wonderful it is to have a job that helps people have some of the best days of their lives. It's the role of a magic fairy, a seer, a stickler, a hustler, and a muse. Every day is Travel Advisor Day here, and I love it!
