News from Brooklyn, Mexico, Europe, Peru & Fiji!

"40 pieces by Pina Bausch. I designed 26 stage sets for Pina. 30 years, huge struggles, profound desperation, but over the years we also always kept the most beautiful surprises in store for each other. I see it as a declaration of love." – Peter Pabst, Tanztheater Wuppertal set designer

It was a BAM "old guard" reunion at Friday's opening night of Água, a piece Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal created during a residency in Brazil in 2001. Meeting Pina and working with her incredibly gifted, gorgeous dancers and wonderful creative and technical teams will always be a highlight of my nine years in Artist Services at BAM - and really for all of us at BAM. It was heartwarming to see Peter Pabst (pictured above) and others from the company back in Brooklyn. I've mentally marked that night as my unofficial end of Covid worries because the final scene of Água has the dancers gleefully pouring and spitting glasses of water onto each other until they're soaked. What one year ago would be a biohazard is back to being effervescent entertainment. It made my evening feel pretty surreal.

Now this Friday I'm heading back to Mexico! Hyatt is hosting me on a four-night tour of Hyatt Privé and Hyatt all-inclusive properties in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Costa Mujeres (Playa Mujeres and Isla Mujures). Last week I had the pleasure of touring the new Nine Orchard hotel, newly opened just six months ago in Manhattan's Chinatown/Lower East Side neighborhood, and I posted a video of their private rooftop event space on Nine Muses Travel's YouTube channel, plus lots of lovely photos from the property you can find on Nine Muse's Facebook and Instagram. Last summer I stayed at another hotel a block from there for a staycation after a concert at Bowery Ballroom, so I know exactly what it's like to walk in that area at night and wake up there in the morning too. If you're looking for a real New York City experience that's off-the-beaten tourist track, Nine Orchard is a uniquely special choice. I now know the General Manager and sales staff, so book your next stay through me for the VIP treatment.

Lastly, a few travel updates for you! The EU confirmed that ETIAS has been postponed to 2024, with no exact start date available yet. ETIAS stands for European Travel Information and Authorization System and is an electronic system that allows and keeps track of visitors from countries who do not need a visa to enter the Schengen Zone. Click here for more information on on ETIAS. When we book your European trip in 2024 and beyond, I'll be reminding you and helping you with this, don't worry!

Also, the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in Peru reopened March 1, and nearly all Peru operations have returned to normal. In Peru, we can also arrange for specialist guides to help you discover traditional Andean crops such as quinoa, amaranth and potatoes on an agricultural tour or visit the new Alqa Arte Gallery of Andean Expression and Ethnographic Museum in Ollantaytambo - paired perfectly with the Inca site of Ollantaytambo to dig deeper into the conservation of traditional Andean art. It's also a great spot to try some authentic Andean dishes.

And Fiji finally eased all its entry restrictions!
