"Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear." — Tony Robbins
Around 9am this morning, I took the photo above at Pittsburgh's beautiful new airport, and as you can see, security waits were a non-issue. In fact, the security lines at airport terminals around the country will vary greatly, even on the best of days, depending on the time of day and day of the week. For example, PIT will always be busier in the early hours because it's not a major hub and many flights depart very early to make connecting flights.
During these testing times for the TSA workers, my best advice is to check your airport's website and social media for information they're sharing on wait times. Many are sharing real-time information. When I flew from Delta's JFK Terminal 4 on Friday, I found some Reddit threads that were really helpful. It also seemed that the earliest morning departures were showing the longest lines. When I checked in there around 8:30am, there was no line at CLEAR, and the other security lines were a little longer than usual but not outside the regular queue area.
If you haven't already, you can apply for TSA PreCheck and opt in for Touchless ID, and you can apply for TSA PreCheck through CLEAR without needing to make an appointment. Along with Global Entry, these help make the airport a much smoother experience.
Spring is such a fantastic time to travel when rates are lower and the weather is often really pleasant. April is busy here with a couple traveling to Paris and Normandy for a custom birthday trip, a couple enjoying a bespoke luxury escapade from Paris to Morocco (Fes, Atlas Mountains, Marrakech), a father and son on a family-themed group tour of Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka), a female solo traveler on a solo-themed group tour through Costa Rica (San Jose, Arenal, Fortuna, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio), a sweet couple heading to Florence, a family adventure to Universal Orlando, another solo female traveler on a group trip affiliated with National Geographic around Scotland (Edinburgh, Pitlochry, Highlands, Glasgow), and a honeymoon couple celebrating with a Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Venice with stops at Valletta, Malta; Corfu, Greece; Kotor, Montenegro, and in Croatia at Dubrovnik and Split. We have lovely pre and post hotels arranged for them in Barcelona and Venice too - with a romantic gondola ride, of course.
Before we put winter too far in the rear view, don't forget how during those shorter days you longed for the sunshine and a warm getaway.... To get the best rates and availability for next winter's escapes, it's not too early to plan ahead and lock in prices now!
