Nothing excites my imagination like New Year's Day and the vastness of possibilities of an unwritten year ahead. Each previous year I could have NEVER predicted how the events of my life would play out by December. Nothing ever exactly evolved as I'd imagined or planned. It's a perennial epiphany how much life will surprise us in a year, how whatever we may think, hope, or fear will happen, while standing on this January doorstep, almost certainly won't play out that way. It's thrilling to remember how much about life is unexpected. The best we can do is set mindful intentions, keep healthy routines in place, and endeavor to make good and honorable decisions as we weave together another year of stories, memories, and experiences.
I began my New Year with an "out with the old" approach and did a full apartment clean to metaphorically begin a fresh start at home. I also named my New Year's resolution: to call friends and loved ones more. I discovered Swiffering the floors is a breezy task while talking with old friends, and I called a lot of people I love as I cleaned house. It was the first time I'd checked off my resolution by the end of the day! Just kidding - I'll call them all again soon (especially when it's time to dust and tidy up)!
My biggest news of the week is that yesterday Nine Muses Travel was awarded a $10,000 NYC Small Business Resilience Grant. What a great start to the year - and checkbook!
