HOW is it December right now? I could swear I was in Tuscany just a week or two ago! I've been so busy, and I'm preciously grateful for where the business stands and is headed. Not only do requests continue pouring in, but I keep growing in confidence as a public speaker too. Do we count presenting on Zoom as public speaking actually? Well, I am! On November 18th, Travefy invited me back for another travel industry interview, and this time it was all about our favorite weekly newsletter, Muse News - how and why I write it, and my insights on email marketing in general. This interview got me thinking about something else too.... Last week I attended an afternoon of presentations by the Hawaiian tourism board around the concept of malama ("giving back"). Every time you malama to the land, ocean, wildlife, local community - your connection to a place and its people grows stronger each time. Many hotels presented on how their guests can malama while in Hawaii, and I'd LOVE to help you participate in one of their projects like beach clean-up, planting native trees, etc. To be honest, I was also thinking: Some of these presentations are so stiff and scripted even though malama is so wonderful. I think I was a better speaker in that Travefy interview actually.....
The universe was eavesdropping apparently and took me up on the challenge because shortly afterwards, I got an email from the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) announcing an open call for speakers for our annual conference in August, in San Francisco. So although I've yet to attend it in person instead of online, I submitted a proposal as soon as I saw the email. I simply thought: Why not? I basically proposed adapting this Travefy interview into a live presentation. I've never spoken on stage to that many people before, but for some reason it doesn't make me terribly nervous. Who knows if they'll choose my proposal, but the act of applying felt powerful in itself. Lastly, an important update about testing for Americans returning to the States. As of yesterday, you'll need to move up your COVID test from 3 days prior to return to 1 day prior to return to the U.S. Don't fret; I help you navigate all the procedures throughout your entire journey.
