Your House in the Hamptons: Canoe Place Inn

"The great advantage of a hotel is that it is a refuge from home life." ― George Bernard Shaw

I took this farewell photo last Sunday after a wonderful weekend getaway at the sublime Canoe Place Inn & Cottages at Hampton Bays thanks to my insider hotel contacts at Calliope Collective. I didn't know what to expect coming to the Hamptons in March, and I was so pleasantly surprised! The massive restoration and renovation of Canoe Place Inn brought a cool, new life to this property, and thanks to some quality, eclectic programming and great food, the locals gather here too and imbue the restaurant and lounge with in-the-know vibes but in a friendly, communal way.

I arrived to Hampton Bays on the Long Island Railroad's Montauk line, and a driver from Canoe Place met me on the train platform. From the moment I arrived, it felt like being invited into a friend's Hampton cottage. The hospitality here is very special. I felt so comfortable and at home the next morning that I wore the slippers from my room down to the spa for my treatment. The kind woman at the front desk asked me how I'd slept, just like a friend would if you were sleeping over. The breakfast area is like a cozy country kitchen, and after grabbing some grapes and figs, I walked down the hallway to their Sommetbeauty spa, a sweet little zone with three treatment rooms and a sunny relaxation area.

Canoe Place Inn has 22 spacious rooms filled with a fresh, boutique design and neat contemporary art like the quirky framed needlepoint figures of past guests like The Ramones and Billy Joel. There are also 2, 3 and 4 bedroom cottages steps away from the main Inn, and some condo-style residences. President Obama stayed in one of the cottages while playing one of the area's renowned golf courses.

Here's the thing: If you don't have a car (like many of us New Yorkers) or your own collection of beach umbrellas and chairs, you don't need ANY of that to have a perfect beach getaway. When my clients stay at Canoe Place Inn, their staff will drive you to the beach in their vehicle filled with their umbrellas, blankets, toys, and even a picnic lunch and then SET IT ALL UP FOR YOU on the beach. This is a no-stress, no-fuss, no-brainer way to have an amazing weekend at the beach. If you drive to Canoe Place, you can still use all their beach gear, and they'll vacuum the sand from your vehicle before you leave.

Once you're here, there's so much to see and do! Hampton Bays is well-located to explore both the Hamptons villages on the Atlantic coast and also the North Fork of Long Island, home to over 50 vineyards thriving in a Bordeaux-like microclimate. You could fill a weekend with wine tastings, antique shopping, and food tastings. I spent Saturday with a local insider who offers all-inclusive, custom tours with exclusive connections to wineries (as a member, he'll extend his retail discount to my clients), antique shops, chocolatiers, oyster farmers, and other small and women-owned businesses for unique perspectives told by locals who are passionate about their craft and love to share what they know.

Canoe Place Inn takes all the work and mystery out of how to get away from the city to The Hamptons and North Fork, and when you arrange your stay through Nine Muses Travel, they will offer additional amenities just for my clients. This is the power of working with a travel advisor with great relationships!
