"Burgundy makes you think of silly things; Bordeaux makes you talk about them, and Champagne makes you do them." ― Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

One of the best things about living in New York for a travel business owner is all the great travel events that come to town. Last week I was invited to the Consulate General of France for a fabulous networking event with tourism boards, hoteliers, and tour operators in town from the Loire Valley, Burgandy, Bordeaux, Dijon, Cognac, Aquitaine, and many more. These regions are filled with charming and historic villages, great museums, and an abundance of fantastic experiences centered around food, wine, and spirits too like Cognac.

In the town of Cognac, you can learn about this special type of brandy at Maison Hennessy, and here I can even specially arrange for you to dine and enjoy a rare menu where the chef incorporates their various Cognacs into each delicious course. I also met with guides who specialize in the wine trails of Bordeaux and with plenty of gorgeous hotels and châteaux where you'll be a welcome guest.

I've added Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, to my own personal list. Along with its famous mustard, the city is an amazing culinary destination with an international gastronomy and wine center that houses a cooking school, wine school, food shops, wine tastings, and more. Dijon showcases some of the best museums in Burgundy too, including the contemporary Consortium Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, and beautiful opera house.

I especially loved meeting with all the Châteaux owners from the Loire Valley! My favorite was the Domain de Chaumont-sur-Loire (pictured above) for its fantastic contemporary art exhibits and annual International Garden Festival from April-November. Add Clos Lucé to your list and travel back through 800 years of French history to when it belonged to the Amboise family in the middle ages; in 1516 King Francis I gave it to Leonardo da Vinci, who died here three years later. At Château Royal d'Amboise you can marvel at this home to the kings of France during the Renaissance and pay your respects to da Vinci, who's buried here.

And the cheese the Consulate served us from the Loire Valley was so good - almost too good! I am now OBSESSED with Valençay cheese. Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas now is this cheese.
