Getting Out & About Again

"Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on." — Serena Williams

Yesterday I happily attended the return of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce's "Business Before Hours" in-person speed networking breakfast event, pictured above. Chamber member Debra Dixon-Anderson (in the orange blazer), Founder and CEO of Light of Gold PR, Marketing, and Consulting, always leads a fun and lively session where even the shiest among us feel comfortable making new connections. I usually leave having talked to practically everyone in the room, effortlessly. It was especially nice to reconnect with Daniella Moné, a gracious portrait photographer with a background in dance (standing next to me in the photo); I may participate in her newest photo project and possibly help arrange a group trip for her to St. Martin focusing on professional portraits where guests will look especially beautiful on wind-swept Caribbean beaches. Our event was at WeWork's swanky space at Brooklyn Navy Yard overlooking the huge drydock and New York City's "eastern seaboard," as we called it - the East River's Brooklyn coast, facing Manhattan on a bright, crisp day. Just a fabulous morning out and about!

Last week was yet another busy one with travel roadshow events. The French tourism office in New York, Atout France, hosted a terrific morning with tourism boards, hoteliers, and other suppliers from the Côte d'Azur, the French Riviera. Honestly, they gave some of my favorite event swag ever - especially several divine-smelling treats from Grosse's Fragonard, with which I'm now obsessed.

I also returned to the distinctive Explorer's Club on the Upper East Side for a Portuguese tourism event where I met new and familiar colleagues from my not-so-secret favorite country. We got updates from Madeira's tourism office, TAP airline, and key hotel groups in Madeira and mainland Portugal. The last time I was there for a Portuguese event I was gifted a two-night stay at Hotel Palácio Estoril Golf and Spa on Portugal's Cascais coast, a short drive from Lisbon, and it was so nice to see my contact again after my luxuriously relaxed visit there 5 years ago almost to the day. We all live and work in a small world, and it's deeply satisfying seeing our colleagues in person again after being kept apart so long.

Meanwhile the world continues to reopen. As of April 1, South Korea is open to vaccinated Americans, and Australia's two-year-long ban on cruise ships expired this past Sunday. I'm busy helping travelers book lots of last-minute spring and summer 2022 travels including new requests for Edinburgh and Scottish castles, Bolivia, Marrakech, Northern California, and more. Where are you off to next?
