Nemacolin: Luxury Amid Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands

Nemacolin resort is nestled in the pristine beauty of southwestern Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands and covers 2,200 acres filled with fun, adventure, and exceptional hospitality. Along with a dozen other luxury travel advisors, I was invited here by Calliope Collective, a sales and marketing representation company with a fantastic portfolio of clients, like Nemacolin, so we could experience it for ourselves and learn about what makes it so special and which of our clients would appreciate it the most.
Fans of The Bachelor "reality" show may recall that Matt's season during the pandemic was filmed entirely at Nemacolin, and it really raised awareness for all the activities you can do here. In just two days our group of advisors had a beautiful afternoon tea in the hidden Bleu Room, went clay shooting (and I hit two out of three of my targets!), toured a private rental home where we had a chef-prepared breakfast and a watercolor technique class on the back deck overlooking rolling green mountains, met Gideon the Bengal Tiger (and wolves and goats) in their wildlife area, played virtual reality laser tag, tried axe throwing, played pinball, watched cosmic bowling, discovered the vast and important private art collection throughout the property (local artists, a Calder mobile, priceless chandeliers and glass art incl. a custom-made Chihuly, and so much more), saw the actual football displayed from the Immaculate Reception, gazed on electric blue tropical fish in an 8,500 gallon indoor cylindrical aquarium, and enjoyed amazing Italian and seafood dishes. This morning I end my time at Nemacolin with a visit to the spa for a facial and a swim in their private pool area before flying home.
Given more time, you can also enjoy several beautiful bars, see cabaret club performances (Thursday-Saturday), golf on two championship courses or mini-golf, try the casino, ride horses, tackle the obstacle course or climbing wall, zipline on a canopy tour, drive ATVs off-road on property, check out the Hardy family vintage car collection, swim in several heated pools, all after landing your plane on Nemacolin's own airstrip, of course.
We saw rooms in each building where you can stay including a gorgeous king room at The Chateau, (where I recorded that video tour), the two-bedroom Penthouse at the Grand Lodge that sleeps 10 and has sweeping mountain views, townhomes perfect for families with parking at your doorstep (and near playgrounds and the wildlife area), plus rooms and suites at Falling Rock, designed by an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright's in homage to the Usonian style of architecture - and filled with stunning Tiffany lamps too. Falling Rock is design-forward and adults only (16 and older) with a private infinity pool exclusively for Falling Rock guests plus free access to the adjacent Holistic Healing Center for acupuncture, massage, yoga, salt-water float therapy, infrared light therapy, cryotherapy, and more.
Once you get here (via WV, Pittsburgh, or D.C.), free Nemacolin shuttles take you all around the resort from activity to activity, so you can indulge in wine or whiskey tastings without worrying about how to get back to your room safely. And since you need to have your name on a list at the guard station to even enter the property, the entire experience of staying at Nemacolin feels safe and secure. And if you wonder how they find 1,200 employees for this bucolic location, the Hardy family who owns Nemacolin is behind West Virginia University's Hardy Family Hospitality and Tourism Management Program that offers internships at Nemacolin as well as providing professional training for potential future employees.
The crowning jewel is the happiness of the employees who seem genuinely excited that you're here with them - like the woman who blows bubbles and plays party songs in her shuttle bus and the front desk staff at The Chateau who always smile kindly and say a warm hello when I walk past them.
There are so many reasons Nemacolin is highly rated and awarded for excellence, and I'd LOVE to tell you more about what it's like to stay here - and why it's worth it!
