Yesterday I celebrated the five year anniversary of incorporating Nine Muses Travel in the simplist of ways. I awoke early for a sunrise walk alone on the beach, giving my gratitude to the sea. It was my last morning at Palmaia - The House of AiA (pictured above), where I was invited to experience a wellness retreat right after Virtuoso Travel Week. Palmaia is an all-inclusive, vegan forward, chic yet unpretentious, luxury beachfront resort at the southernmost end of Playa del Carmen, where you feel immersed in a paradise, completely removed from every day life.
During my three night stay where all suites face the brilliant blue Caribbean Sea, I ate incredibly delicious and wholesome food. Palmaia set a new bar for dining at an all-inclusive resort! Leave behind any preconceived notions about vegan food because everything here was off the charts yummy, and you can ask for fish, etc. if you want it. It was a judgement free environment where everyone was accepted as they were when they arrived, about to set out on a path of self-discovery or simply spend decadent days of relaxation at the spa, salon, pool, gym, or a beach cabana where you're handed fresh cut coconut to drink.
Each day Palmaia offered choices of enriching activities and spiritual rituals. I participated in a sound meditation, a gratitude ritual, a massage that began with a guided meditation, and a restorative yoga class outdoors on a hidden, elevated wood deck with lush jungle canopy overhead where spider monkeys watched from above. Quietly strolling the lone paved walkway connecting the buildings from behind, I met colorful lizards, songful birds, spider monkeys, agouti, and a coati (a sort of raccoon-monkey) while calming scents like burning sage helped relax my strides.
Palmaia is a place of possibilities, I discovered. What would a wellness retreat look, sound, taste, smell, and feel like to you? Would it be more physically active, more spa-centered, in the mountains, on a lake, in a desert, or on a white sand beach? I'd LOVE to tailor a wellness vacation for you!
I left Palmaia yesterday morning after saying goodbye again to the sea, full of gratitude for my long life, the people in it, and the decision I made five years ago to start my own travel business. I'm grateful for my clients traveling the world today in Colorado, Japan, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Greece. It was a special treat to share happy guest photos and emails in person during Virtuoso Travel Week with the actual suppliers we worked with to make their dreams a reality.
