I hope you had a peaceful Memorial Day weekend! Here in New York, the cold rains of the weekend cleared in time for a sunny Memorial Day yesterday and the unofficial start to summer. Now that summer is nearly upon us, we need to have some Real Talk. If you haven't made your summer vacation plans by now, you need to start - like, right now. Rental cars and hotel rooms across the U.S. are in high demand because so many plan to travel domestically this summer. If you're also staying Stateside, don't make the mistake of trying to DIY with booking your trip. Don't get me wrong; I love working with clients who enjoy dong their own research. Kindred spirits! In a few days, I head to Pittsburgh for my Family Reunion Tour, and I'm excited to get on a plane again and back inside airports; I miss them so. I expect I'll be quite emotional - not just to see my loved ones but to be traveling again too, of course! I love the intersection of humanity at an airport - together in space briefly before speeding apart across the earth. I love the gravity blanket feeling of take-off and the speed rush of landing in the breaths before they hit the brakes. I always liked the air vent blowing gently on me, and now I know that vent dispenses the best, most purified air of any mode of travel. This week I'll pack my carry-on for the first time in 16 months, the longest I've gone without traveling in my entire adult life and most of my childhood too.
Being fully vaccinated is THE game changer for Travel, and these news items caught my eye this past week, especially as we keep hearing more good news of places opening to those who are vaccinated.
Malta
Malta, a Mediterranean archipelago, was the first E.U. country to start vaccinating people over 16 years old, and much earlier than projected, Malta has reached herd immunity. 70% of the adult population is vaccinated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 42% are now fully vaccinated.
Hawaii
You can now enjoy Hawaii's beaches and lush natural beauty mask-free, regardless of vaccination status. "The success of our vaccine program and the cooperation of our residents across the state, have brought us to this point," Hawaii Governor David Ige said.
New! Steamboat Race & Kentucky Derby Cruise
American Queen Steamboat Company announced a special 2023 river cruise on their newly launched, 245-guest American Countess that will join one of the Kentucky Derby’s exciting traditions, the Great Steamboat Race! Sip bourbon on board as thousands of people line the riverbanks to watch the race! AQSC also requires all guests and crew to be fully vaccinated for all sailings beginning July 1, 2021.
Peru
Peru recently removed the quarantine requirement for international arrivals.
The U.A.E.
Fully vaccinated guests flying on Etihad Airways can now travel quarantine-free between the U.A.E. and U.S. when they travel in either direction from the U.A.E. and Chicago, New York, or Washington, D.C. Travelers from the U.A.E. may continue to preclear U.S. immigration in Abu Dhabi with Etihad.
Wherever you plan to roam this summer (maybe it WILL be Rome!), do get in touch ASAP because the travel rebound is happening, and I want you to have the trip you deserve after all this time.
