Happy Autumn! I just celebrated my birthday month with VIP tickets at the beautifully renovated Brooklyn Paramount to see the last U.S. tour of Garbage, one of my favorite bands for the last 30 years. On their first U.S. tour, we met at a CD signing at my college record store and hit it off when I said I'd been listening to their debut album on repeat. They invited me to their sold-out show at Metropol that night in Pittsburgh, and after the concert, the singer Shirley Manson ran up and invited me and my friends to the VIP lounge to hang out. I became a fan for LIFE that day! Shirley had asked me if I liked the show, and when I told her of course I did, I'll never forget the vulnerable almost insecure way she replied, "Really?" I was 21, and she was 29. Two young, ambitious women in the '90s with so much ahead of us. I didn't expect to get emotional at the concert this weekend, but it's amazing to be here in our 50's now, each having achieved so much. I mean, I'm not a rock star, but owning a travel business is my own dream come true. Coincidentally, they're performing in Pittsburgh tonight.

 

Our VIP tickets included a sound check with two songs followed by a Q&A with the band. Someone asked what was still on their bucket lists, and three of them said travel - but to places they never get to see on tour. So, when it was time for our group photo above, you better believe I told them I have a travel agency and gave them my card so I can help them get to all those places! If I ever help Shirley plan her dream trip to Japan, that will be a whole new pinnacle in my personal and professional life.

 

So it doesn't matter if you're a rock star, a retiree, a newlywed, a family, or a solo wanderer (like me), that desire to travel is always with us - to learn about other cultures, try new foods, hear different music, and be awestruck by the natural beauty of different landscapes than we're used to.
