"Traveler, there are no paths. Paths are made by walking.” – Australian Aboriginal Proverb
My entire 2022 was speeding along until... the heat wave arrived in New York City last week, and then each day sweltered on, one after another. I hope you're keeping cool and hydrated! One of the perks of this job is the mental escape I get to take as I work on my clients' itineraries. Physically I'm Brooklyn, but in my imagination this week I've been in a breezy hammock on the quiet beach of a boutique hotel in Aruba, whale watching in the Azores, and on a foodie tour in Medellín, Colombia.
Tomorrow a wild journey in Australia begins for a family of four for 12 nights packed with iconic sites and VIP access. They begin in Sydney with a harbor cruise on a small, luxury vessel. The next adventure-filled day is with a private guide and driver through the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains: an early visit to Featherdale Wildlife Park to get up close and personal with kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and wombats plus a stop in Blue Mountains National Park for time to roam and seek out wild kangaroos and birdlife. A special-access, zoo keeper led tour is planned at Sydney's Taronga Zoo with a feeding and photo opportunity with koalas and kangaroos, a visit to the animal kitchen to learn how their food is prepared, and a stop in the Nightlife House to meet its nocturnal creatures. Did you know most animals in Australia are nocturnal because of the hot climate? I keep thinking the Nightlife House sounds like the club where they all go at night to party.
After Sydney, it's off to Ayers Rock to experience the artist Bruce Monro's magical "Field of Light" installation and spend an entire day from sunrise to sunset in awe of the rock formations and ancient rock art in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, respecting sacred spaces and aboriginal traditions. Next is a stay in Brisbane plus a Great Barrier Reef tour on a catamaran with an underwater observatory and spacious sundeck. This adventurous family requested a LOT of outdoor and animal experiences, and one of my favorite days for them is an excursion out of Brisbane that combines the famous Kuranda Scenic Train line through hand-hewn tunnels and over bridges spanning spectacular gorges, plus the Skyrail over rainforest canopy to Caravonica Lakes toward a park that includes a wetlands cruise, Crocodile Attack Show, and a Snake Show! They literally end on a high note because this brave family will make the impressive three and a half hour Bridge Climb to the TOP of the Sydney Harbor Bridge - at the twinkling twilight time, towering around 440 feet above the harbor.
When I say there's no typical type of trip I arrange, this is a great example of listening to what this family wanted to do most and making it happen for them. Everyone is inspired by something different, and I LOVE that about the Nine Muses Travel community. I know this is a family adventure they'll remember and cherish forever because it was tailormade just for them.
